My name is Skadarlija...or Skadarska street, however you like it. I am no boulevard...or avenue...or highway. I am a common steep curved alley in the middle of Belgrade, and that would be everything meaningful to be told about me if it wouldn't be for my bohemian history, my crumbling roofs, my shaking chairs.....

Skadarlija

IanFurniss: Photographer

Located on the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, Belgrade (Beograd) is the capital of Serbia and lies at the heart of the Eastern gateway from Europe to Asia. With a history dating back as far as the Vinča culture of the 6th Miillenium BC, it can reasonably be said that to know the history of Belgrade is to know the history of Europe.

As a photographer I think of each photo as a single moment in a greater whole. The images contained within this site can therefore only ever be considered a small reflection of the life and history of one of Europe's most cosmopolitan cities. Belgrade is a historical city, but it is also a modern city, a vibrant city, and a city filled with life and culture. It has given me a great deal and through my photography I hope I give at least a little back.
